Why fake reviews exist

A good average rating sells. That is why some companies buy positive reviews for themselves — or negative ones for their competitors. Before you hire, buy or invest, it pays to recognise the most common patterns.

Warning signs

  • Bursts of activity: dozens of 5-star reviews published within a few days, after months of silence.
  • Generic language: text that could apply to any company ("great service, very professional") without a single concrete detail of the experience.
  • Profiles with no history: authors who have written exactly one review in their life, all on the same day.
  • Extremes with no middle ground: only 1-star and 5-star ratings, nothing in between.
  • Copy-pasted company replies: the company answers everything with the same template, a sign of automated reputation management.

What we do differently at TrustedFunders

Every review published on our platform goes through two filters:

  1. OTP verification by email: the author must confirm a one-time code, which prevents automated mass publishing.
  2. Human moderation: our team checks every review before publishing and discards those showing fraud patterns.

In addition, any visitor can report a suspicious review from the company page itself. Every report is reviewed manually.

Your judgement is still the best tool

No platform is infallible. Always read several full reviews — not just the average — pay attention to the 2, 3 and 4-star ones (they tend to be the most honest) and cross-check the information in more than one source.
